Bio

Bobbie Pires grew up in upstate New York in the rural town of Glenville where Felix Unger spent his summers with his grandmother and where the Unabomber's mother lived. She immersed herself in creative play to counter the boredom that was heavy in the air. She sewed, drew, painted and built a tree house for the raccoons to poop in. Her first real work of art happened at the age of five when she created paint from baby powder stirred with water and covered the entire backyard brick fireplace. She informed her mother that it was now "soft enough."

Bobbie graduated from the Art Institute of Boston; wore the requisite black garb and settled into the clayworking department without ever using clay. As a young adult without a lot of practical information about supporting herself by making art she acquired various other skills that have all informed her artwork. She made some really poor choices in love and walked away from what kept her life blood running in the first place-art.

Wearing a purple taffeta bridesmaid dress, Bobbie met Kurt Pires who is now her husband. She lives with him in Oakland, California with their collies, Oona and Adelphie. She now dedicates much of her time to creating art. She feels like she has a second lease on life and is making up for lost time. Feeling like a child again, she draws, paints, sews and builds wooden boxes. From time to time she is mesmerized when joy sneaks into her art. She remains curious about the balancing act that is artmaking which speaks of sadness and anger. Mystery helps.
